Several unique elements contribute to the unique, bright sound of Gibson Blueshawk electric guitars. Classified as an acoustic or semi-acoustic, it is actually neither, but sound chambers in the body modify the sound from that of a standard solid-body electric guitar. A combination of woods – rosewood, maple and poplar – also gives Gibson Blueshawk electric guitars a distinctive sound. The rosewood neck brings out the midrange tones of the guitar, while the maple body cap adds brightness to the tone.
Pickups also offer the player options for varieties of sound. Gibson Blueshawk electric guitars have Blues 90 pickups that offer a wide range of sounds. Virtually hum-free in spite of a single-coil construction, the Blues 90 pickups offer eighteen distinct sound settings ranging from warm, bell-like tones to "twangier" settings to woodier jazz sounds.
Though Gibson Blueshawk electric guitars have a long neck, longer than most other Gibson guitars, the Blueshawk guitars are light and easily played due to the poplar wood used in the body. The body itself is on the small side, with F-hole sound chambers that both enhance the tone and lighten the weight of the guitar overall. Even the hardware is lightweight.
The easy balance between the neck and body, as well as a cutout in the body that allows the guitar to conform to the player, adds even more comfort to playability. Another cutaway makes the higher frets easy to access, and the smooth fretboard and comfortably shaped neck are easy on the fingers and allow for bending and other sound effects. The frets themselves are high enough to feel easily while navigating the fretboard, and string spacing allows for easy vibrato, bending, and general ease in fretting.
While Gibson Blueshawk electric guitars can take some getting used to due to the variety of sounds available and the overall unique nature of the instrument, they offer a fabulous playing experience, and many Blueshawk owners have referred to their guitar as the best they've ever played. Geared primarily to the blues player, but flexible enough to accommodate other musical styles, Gibson Blueshawk electric guitars are a joy to play and a delight to own.
