Gibson Electric Guitars

Gibson Electric Guitars were first introduced to the public in 1930s. They were not the first electric guitars on the market as "Rickenbackers" by Electro String Instrument Corporation were released a few years earlier, but Gibson electric guitars quickly picked the pace. The Gibson ES-150 electric guitar was first manufactured in 1936 and is considered the first commercially successful electric guitar. It was a hollow-bodied instrument with a single-coil pickup and was very popular among Jazz guitarists, like Eddie Durham and Charlie Christian just to mention a few.
The popularity of electric guitars skyrocketed and a completely new type of a guitar was introduced in 50s. Again, the Gibson Guitar Corporation did not pioneer the idea of a solid-body guitar, but when they come up with their model, it was definitely a masterpiece of Gibson electric guitars. The Gibson Les Paul electric guitar was first introduced in 1952, just a few years after the Fender Telecaster, and as the time proved, it has been the most popular Gibson electric guitar ever. The contribution of Les Paul, who was a popular Jazz and Pop guitarist of that time and whom the guitar is named after, is controversial, but he definitely put in a lot for promoting and endorsement of this model.
It was the Les Paul model that made Gibson Guitars a leading manufacturer in the guitar industry as Gibson Les Paul was becoming more popular and more favoured by guitarists of all ranks and all around the world. The list of musicians that played Gibson Les Paul can be stretched from Paul McCartney and Jimmy Page to Slash of Guns N' Roses and Ace Frehley of Kiss and the list will continue to grow as the Gibson Les Paul is still manufactured and will be played by many more new guitar players.
In early 60s, yet another model of Gibson electric guitars emerged, the double cutaway SG, which has become as almost popular as the famous Les Paul. This one was followed by a whole number of new models, including Flying V (favoured by Jimi Hendrix), Firebird, Explorer, Invader, and many more. All these guitars found their fans and players, but had never reached the same level of success as earlier created models.
The Gibson Guitar Corporation is still a leading guitar manufacturer and still providing a wide range of high-quality electric guitars to satisfy needs of guitarists playing in different schools and styles. Gibson electric guitars are played and loved by many guitarists and if you can spot a good deal online, you can either become one of them or add another trophy to your collection.
